IYO, what would be your top 5 biggest mistakes Vince has ever done with big man/giant wrestlers?
It can be anything: pushing the wrong man, etc.
WQ2: Who do u think is the most successful big man/giant wrestler of all time? Why?
5) Kurrigan: Now, this one won’t be a popular choice. I don’t know if you remember Kurrigan, but he was around about 11 or 12 years ago. He was seven feet tall and was uncommonly agile for a man of his size. Plain and simple, trained by Bret Hart, he was a good wrestler, and he really had this scary look that was tailor made for a monster heel. Originally, he was in The Truth Commission, back when Vince was creating a ton of stables. Being there really worked for Kurrigan, but unfortunately, Vince made the bone-head decision to stick him in a group with several other giants called the Insane Clown Posse. He completely shattered any sort of credibility or mystique Kurrigan had with the crowd and lost a golden opportunity to have a real, believable monster heel for years to come.
4) The Great Khali: I know that 2007 was a horrific year for injuries in the WWE, but putting the World Heavyweight Championship on The Great Khali? Talk about a brutal error. Aside from the fact that Khali botches more than Kelly Kelly and has a tendency to injure people in the ring, all he ever did as champion was feud with Batista. Khali and Batista, who ever thought that would pack em’ in needs to get their head checked.
I mean, if Vince wanted to put the title on a giant, there’s nothing wrong with that. Before Edge got injured that year they had hinted at an Edge-Kane feud, and then a Batista-Kane feud. I mean, what would have been the problem with having Kane as world champion? Why did it have to be Khali? I’m no Batista fan, but I would have liked to see Batista-Kane. Instead we wound up with one of the worst world championship reigns in history.
3) Kane: This one ties in with number two, but it’s an even bigger travesty than Khali as world champion (no pun intended). Not pushing Kane is a huge mistake. The guy is an icon of wrestling and extremely talented, but for whatever reason, Vince has always held back on pushing him hard, except for his original entrance into WWE with The Undertaker back in 1997.
I just don’t understand it. Vince has an obsession with giants, and Kane certainly seems to fits the bill. He’s big, agile, great in the ring, decent on the mic, has a long and storied history and has displayed unwavering loyalty to Vince and the WWE.
However, Vince continues to put him in fueds that are a complete waste of his time and talent. A huge part of it is that Kane has never pushed to be pushed, which is admirable but still, this is a guy that should be headlining PPV’s.
2) The Big Show: The Big Show is decent, but he’s not outstanding. Vince’s huge problem with Show is that he never seems to know what to do with him. Sometimes he’s this vicious monster heel and then on other occassions he’s this witty, wise-cracking face. I know that requires versatility on Show’s part, but I’d like him to settle on something. He’s a veteran, and he’s been around the block a few times now. Having him feud endlessly with John Cena or The Undertaker does nothing for him. The Big Show should settle into a role, one way or another, as a big time face or a franchise heel as a giant. He’s been dickering around for over a decade now, and it robs him of his credibility. He has the ability to be real superstar, but so far he’s been a bit of a waste of talent.
1) The Undertaker: The big problem with The Undertaker is the way he’s booked most of the time. Wrestlemania aside, Vince seems to always, ALWAYS, want to put The Undertaker up against other, and often bigger, giants. It’s a shame, because many of them don’t have anywhere near the level of talent he does, and as a result they put on poor matches and below average feuds. Plus, Vince really overplays them.
None of this is The Undertaker’s fault. But all of his many giant feuds are the same. The Big Show, Khali, Vladimir Kozlov, this list goes on and on. It’s done because Vince desperately wants The Undertaker to go into every match as the underdog or he thinks the fans will root for the other guy, but he’s wrong. The Undertaker is so over that the fans will never cheer against him now.
The best memories I have of The Undertaker’s career weren’t against talent challenged giants. They were his legendary feuds with guys like Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Steve Austin, The Rock, Edge and even Batista. The only giant that had a timeless feud with The Undertaker was Kane, but that also had the best build up ever and they are the two greatest big men in wrestling history.
The Undertaker will always be remembered as a true legend. But considering that age didn’t really rob him of his abilities like it ususally does other athletes, he could have done so much more.
