Air Force Reserves/United States Air Force Do you get Off Base Housing Pay In the Air Force Reserve?

My goal is to move out with my Soon to be Wife and join the Air Force
I know nothing about it
I want to join for 6 years and go full time or whatever
She doesn’t want me to because she says ill be gone for months at a time and she will be lonely
I want to know all about off base housing allowances
and the Difference between Air Force
and the Air Force Reserve

If you go in as a traditional reservist, one weekend a month, two weeks a year, you do not get on-base housing or BAH for off-base accommodations. Like mentioned above its a part time job and like other part-time jobs you don’t qualify for a lot of benefits.

But if you can get a slot as an active reservist you pretty much are the same as active duty since it will be your full-time job, these slots are called active reserve technicians (ARTs) you’ll have to talk to your reserve recruiter to see what you need to do to get an ART slot and if there are any available at your base. And you should have the same benefits as active duty. The biggest thing about Reserve’s vs Active Duty is that you’ll pretty much stay the whole time at your base ( which is great for your fiance if the base is near your hometown she’ll have family nearby), unless your base closes or choose to find another job at another base. You can also quit if you get tired of playing soldier in the reserves vs active where you’ll get kicked out and and lose benefits or have to wait until your enlistment is up.

As far as housing allowance itself, it depends on your rank and zip code of your base another factor is if you have dependents (does not matter how many pay stays the same for 1 or 8 dependents). You can use the link below to figure out how much you’ll get, the amount is per month, usually split between pay periods half on the 1st the other half on the 15th. If you decide to live some place where your BAH does not cover all of your rent or mortgage then you’ll have to make it up with your regular pay, known a lot of people myself included who will find places cheaper to rent so they can use the rest of the BAH to cover other bills.
