Why do mvp caliber super stars always stink in the playoffs?

Guys like Mauer, A-rod, Vlad, Bagwell , Bonds, Piazza, Juan Gonzalez & Palmeiro in 1996..
Guys worthy of the MVP trophy always seem to stink in the playoffs..
Why do these regular season MVP’s always stink in the playoffs?

In some cases I think it’s mental (Piazza especially). In other cases I think it goes back to the old theory that you do not one that ONE guy on the other team to beat you.

Look at the Dodger series. Right now it looks like Pujols is struggling but the fact is that they’ve basically been pitching around him. He’s gotten two or three good pitches to hit combined in the first two games. Just ask Brad Lidge about Pujols “sucking” in the playoffs.
